Helmet description Reference

The Reference collection are the foundation Antarès helmets. Conservative and discreet with black matte shell finishes, silver detailing and the option of black or brown leather components. Also choose whether to have the Antarès logo or not.

Customize your Antares helmet

If you wish, you can change the colors of the plate, headband and triangle on this model to create a unique helmet. In its classic version, these elements are chrome-plated. It's up to you to choose your own helmet customization colors! We've written a blog post on helmet customization to make it easy for you.

Composition of your Reference riding helmet

The outer shell

The outer shell of your Antarès riding helmet is made of ABS. Its purpose is to disperse the energy from an impact over the helmet’s surface. When your helmet strikes an object, the shell distributes the shock wave by spreading it out.

The helmet liner

The liner is made from EPS (expanded polystyrene). It absorbs the energy by compressing on impact. As a result, the liner becomes far denser and cannot absorb the force a second time as it is ‘single-impact‘. To observe the consequences of a shock on the helmet liner, consult our blog article.

Vents

Its 4 front vents and 2 rear extractors provide good air circulation. Thermal regulation is therefore improved.

The retention system

This ensures your helmet fits securely on your head and stops any rotation. The harness has 3 or 4 points. These points correspond to the number of fastenings on your helmet. Accordingly, all Antarès riding helmets have 3-point harnesses. The Y-shaped fastening system has more widely spaced points to reduce any helmet rotation. What’s more, our helmets have nylon straps and POM buckles (a plastic compound).

A little extra: Antares chinstraps are made of leather from the offcuts of our custom saddles. Aesthetic and responsible! Discover all the actions we take to recycle our leather.

Helmet pads

In contact with the rider's head, the high quality foams allow a perfect fit of your riding helmet and an optimal comfort. Whether your head shape is round or oval, they will complement your body shape. Removable, these internal pads can be regularly removed and cleaned to maintain cleanliness. Made in Italy, they are breathable, OEKO-TEX® certified and hand washable in warm water.

Foams are sold with the helmet.

Our riding helmets are handmade in our workshop in Saintes. Find out more about the creation process in our blog post.

The cross visor

The short visor has been designed to respond to the demands of eventers on a cross-country course and to protect the rider in the event of a fall. The European standard EN1384-2023 requires the visor to bend when a load is applied to it. This is to prevent it from breaking and injuring the rider. The visor of Antares helmets is therefore deliberately flexible. In case of deformation, it can be manipulated manually to restore its original shape.

The helmet bag is ideal for protecting and transporting your helmet easily. It is designed in every detail, with a large central pocket and a large zipper for easy storage of the helmet.

Do you have any other questions?

Would you like to know more about the warranty offered by your Antarès riding helmet? Whether your helmet can be repaired after an impact?
We address all your questions regarding the warranty and after-sales service of our helmets in our FAQ.

Riding helmet safety

The riding helmet is of paramount importance for the safety of every rider, whatever his level. All our models are CE marked and SEI certified. They have successfully passed the EN1384-2023 / F1163-2023 standards.

Please pay special attention to your helmet. As our impact tests show, the safety of the helmet may not be optimal if the helmet shell has retracted. And this even without any external sign of a fall. This explains why it is necessary to change your riding helmet after an impact.

We recommend replacing the helmet within 5 years of purchase, even if there has been no impact or damage.

Choosing the size of your riding helmet

Composition of the helmet

The helmet is comprised of:

– one shell available in S – M – L

– 1 set of liners « head circumference » (set B)  which adjusts the shell on the head and makes the different sizes depending on the size of the shell. Available thickness: 4 – 8 – 12 – 16 mm. Note that the rear part of this liner is removable to give more space for a ponytail or if the riders wants to keep her hair up inside of the helmet.

– 1 set of liners « top-front » (Set A) to adjust the depth of the helmet on the top and the front. Available thickness: 4 – 8 mm

Our headset pads are included with the headset, but also sold separately.

How to choose your riding helmet size?

Here are a few tests you can try to check your helmet adjustment. The helmet size is correct if:

1) It stands just above the eyebrows line,

2) It fits tight enough without compressing,

3) It stays properly on the head when shaking and bending with the chinstrap unfastened.
